Notes from Michael Bungay Stanier’s presentation at The Art of Leadership Conference, Friday, October 21, 2016.

This speaker is the author of The Coaching Habit — which I  purchased after this talk.

When coaching people, they often don’t offer up the real challenge they are struggling with when you ask them what’s on their mind the first time. You need to keep asking, “and what else,” followed by “what’s really on your mind.” And then again, “and what else.”

Stay curious just a little bit longer and give advice just a little bit slower.

Then help them learn by allowing them to reflect on what has been uncovered.
